Swimming Without Water
Moseley Road Baths, Birmingham, 18/02/10 - 15/03/10
Debby Akam, Flora Gare, Tim Skinner,
A contemporary art project in an Edwardian swimming bath organised by Birmingham- based independent curators Jimmy Lindqvist and Maria Regla Garcia-Bernal. Both are interested in curating site-specific exhibitions by emerging artists in the public realm to create interaction between art, audience and space.
Debby Akam's recent video- installations have focused on the dissolving barriers between the natural and the artificial, charting journeys or passages through real and imaginary landscapes, travelling between realms, and returning refreshed after connecting with nature. Before making, Nature for Swimming Without Water, she met with local Moseley residents, to gather responses about Moseley Baths, and other more ‘natural’ opportunities for swimming.
